Partial or complete paralysis (Hemiplegia / Pakshaghata)
Loss of motor function and muscle control
Muscle stiffness, spasticity, and contractures
Difficulty with speech (Vani Stambha) and swallowing
Numbness and loss of sensation
Cognitive difficulties, including memory and focus
Conventional post-stroke care focuses on neuroplasticity—retraining the brain to bypass the damaged areas. This is vital, but it doesn't address the deep systemic shock and imbalance the stroke has caused.
At Jeevan Ayurveda Centre, we see the body as an interconnected whole. According to Ayurveda, a stroke is a profound Vata Vyadhi (a disorder of the Vata Dosha). Vata governs all movement, nerve impulses, and circulation in the body and brain.
The underlying event of a stroke is seen as:
Extreme Vata Aggravation: A massive, sudden imbalance of the Vata Dosha (often Vyana Vayu and Prana Vayu) "dries up" or "obstructs" the delicate nerve pathways.
Obstruction of Channels (Sroto Rodha): The stroke itself—whether from a clot (ischemic) or a bleed (hemorrhagic)—causes a severe blockage (Sroto Rodha) in the channels (Srotas) that carry blood, oxygen, and nerve energy (Prana) to the brain.
Damage to Dhatus (Tissues): This event causes critical damage to the Majja Dhatu (nervous system/marrow) and Rakta Dhatu (blood tissue), leading to the loss of function.
Our treatment plan is designed to run alongside your conventional care, with the goal of deeply nourishing the nervous system, reducing spasticity, and promoting the body's innate ability to heal. We use a powerful, time-tested combination of:
Panchakarma Therapies (The Core of Recovery):
Basti (Medicated Enemas): This is the most important treatment for Pakshaghata. As the primary treatment for Vata disorders, Basti works through the colon (the "seat of Vata") to calm the entire nervous system, nourish nerve tissues, and reduce spasticity from the inside out.
Abhyanga & Swedana: Specialized, gentle, and systematic therapeutic massages and herbal steam therapies. These are not ordinary massages; they are designed to stimulate nerve endings, improve blood circulation to affected limbs, prevent muscle atrophy, and significantly reduce stiffness.
Nasya: The nasal administration of specific medicated oils. The nose is considered the "doorway to the brain," and Nasya directly nourishes and revitalizes the cranial nerves, supporting recovery in speech, facial paralysis, and cognitive function.
Shirodhara / Shiro Basti: A continuous stream of oil (Shirodhara) or a pooling of oil on the head (Shiro Basti) to profoundly calm the central nervous system, reduce the mental-emotional trauma of the stroke, and support brain health.
Brain-Nourishing Herbs (Medhya Rasayanas): We prescribe potent Ayurvedic herbs like Ashwagandha, Brahmi, and Arjun to help support neuro-regeneration, improve circulation, and strengthen the mind.
Supportive Diet & Lifestyle: A Vata-pacifying diet that is warm, nourishing, and easy to digest is crucial to support the immense energy the body needs to heal.
Our approach builds confidence because it is designed for deep restoration. By using Panchakarma to calm the root Vata imbalance and specialized therapies to nourish the brain, Ayurveda doesn't just manage post-stroke symptoms—it actively supports the body's healing, helping to restore lost function and improve quality of life.
